Antibacterial activity of Piper betle ethanolic extract against ESBL producing Escherichia coli in sepsis induced BALB/c mice

Sepsis is an organ dysfunction caused by dysregulation of immune response towards systemic infection with high incidence and mortality rate. Innovative breakthrough required to manage sepsis especially extended spectrum beta lactamase (ESBL) producing Escherichia coli (E. coli) induced sepsis. Utilization Piper betle extract could be considered as alternative therapy should proven scientifically so meropenem utilization reduced. This study aimed evaluate the antimicrobial effect ethanolic in BALB/c mice infected ESBL E. coli. We identified terpene, apiol, polyphenol, eugenol, myristicin, flavonoid, safrole, lynalil acetate, allyl tetramethoxy benzene using thin layer chromatography. The minimum inhibitory concentration against was 3 mg/mL assessed broth dilution method. evaluated survival rate single dose administration prolonged for 6 hours.
